Mitsubishi's redesigned 2009 Galant will break cover at the Chicago Auto Show next week. On sale later this month, Mitsubishi promises a revised pricing structure that bundles premium equipment in price-saving value packages.
The new Galant's wide, chrome-framed grille and smoother lines offer a more mature look that detractors will probably compare to the previous-generation Chevrolet Malibu. The rear treatment fares somewhat better, with a wider rear window, expressive taillamps and a new trunklid. Galant Sport models get new 17-inch wheels.
As with the current Galant, a choice of four-cylinder or V6 power is available. There are two sixes this year; the familiar 258-horse 3.8 liter is available in the Ralliart, and it's detuned to 230 horsepower for the new Sport V6 model. A four-speed automatic transmission is standard with the four-cylinder, while V6 cars get a five-speed. Underpinnings haven't changed significantly.
